Still preggo!
I had my weekly appointment with Dr. Anderson on Tuesday and everything is still going well. She did end up checking me and said that my cervix was thinning (sorry if I gross anyone out :) and that I was about a centimeter dilated. I have been feeling those Braxton Hicks contractions very well this past week which I really had not before. They aren't painful but sometimes I do feel a little lightheaded, hot, and my heart starts racing when it does happen. The baby's head has dropped into my pelvis which explains why I went to the bathroom four times between the hours of 2 and 3 a.m. on Sunday night. I didn't think I was going to be able to make it to work but somehow I managed. I definitely have the waddle going on now if I didn't before!
We went to also visit Dr. Brooks, the other potential pediatrician, on Tuesday after my appointment. He seemed very pleasant and was very easy to talk to. Not that Dr. Patel wasn't, I just think if I had to take the baby to the doctor, I would feel more comfortable asking Dr. Brooks questions rather than Patel. Too many decisions!!!
Ron and I also went to see the Color Purple play in Chicago this past weekend. I probably shouldn't have left Decatur (Ron was sure to bring my stuff just in case we had to make a trip to the hospital) but I really wanted to see the play. It was pretty good but the seats were very cramped. Ron and I had to keep moving around because we couldn't see around the people in front of us! Overall it was a good time and we both were happy to have the chance to go!
My next appointment is on Tuesday (if I make it through the weekend!). I have no idea when it will be time. Ron thinks that I won't go into labor until next Saturday but I would like to before then. I've been feeling pretty tired lately and my weight has been creeping up! I've surprised myself a few times with how much I can really eat! I have been trying for the past couple of weeks to put pictures up but this stupid thing won't let me. I promise to keep trying though. Until next time....

The countdown has begun!
My 37 week appointment was on Tuesday! Once again, everything is still going great! Dr. Anderson guessed the weight of the baby now and she thinks he's around 6 lbs. She doesn't think that his head has quite dropped into my pelvis yet but at least his head is still down there! I've been out walking whenever I get a chance to hopefully help drop him down! Ron and I went for a relatively long walk on Sunday. It was actually kind of hot outside but it was nice to finally be able to go out! I don't know if I'm dilated or anything like that yet. My doctor doesn't check women until they are 39 weeks or if I go into labor earlier than that. Everyone at work thinks that I'm lying to them when I tell them that she really hasn't told me anything!
We have pretty much everything in place now for the baby, we're just waiting for him to arrive! We put in the car seat base Friday and I think we've done it right. I plan on having someone from the Health Department check it out. Hopefully, I can get it done before the baby comes! I'm starting to experience the Braxton Hicks contractions and it seems like they're coming a bit more frequently than they have in the past. I do have some swelling in my legs and ankles. To me, it's noticeable!
We have another interview with a pediatrician next Tuesday after my doctor's appointment so we'll see how that goes. They said to check out at least a couple so we decided on Dr. Brooks at St. Mary's. Well, that's pretty much it for now! Promise to write again soon!

Another busy week!
Ron and I have been busy again this week with baby stuff and, of course, work and school. I had my 36 week appointment with Dr. Anderson and everything is still going well. She doesn't check her patients until 39 weeks unless I go into labor early so we are left wondering when it will all happen. I now start going to the doctor every week until the baby is here! Ron was fascinated as he got to feel the baby's head that was in the direction of my pelvis. He thinks he's an expert at baby body parts now!
We then went over to pre-register for the hospital and also register for a private room. We tried to see if we could get an employee discount since Ron sort of works there (for free by the way!) but didn't have much success! So, we are all ready to go when the time arrives with hospital stuff. The receptionist was really cute. She was trying so hard to be confidential with our information. The best part was when she whispered to me, "When was your last period?" I couldn't hear her the first time so I asked her to repeat herself. She leaned in even closer and whispered it again. Now had I not been pregnant I probably would have been embarrassed but since I was and realized that everyone around me also noticed it, it wasn't a big deal. Ron and I had a nice laugh after it!
To finish off the week, Ron and I met with Dr. Patel, a candidate for pediatrician. Ron knew him from the hospital and he was a speaker in one of our childbirth classes. He seemed really nice and down-to-earth. I told Ron that I thought he might be a nice balance for me since I can be a hypochondriac at times :) We were trying to decide if we should meet with this other doctor, Dr. Brooks, and check him out. Right now, we both like Dr. Patel and we'll see how it goes with the other one!
We didn't get a chance to put the car seat in last weekend. It was cold and we just sort of ran out of time. This weekend is supposed to be beautiful so hopefully we can get that situated. Other than that, the room and rest of the townhouse is baby ready. I just hope we are!

It's getting closer...
Hello everyone! Ron and I have been busily preparing for Baby Baker to arrive. I had my 34 week appointment last week and everything still seems fine. I did put on a bit more weight, somehow around 5 pounds, which is the most thus far in a two or four week span. So, I am up to about 160 now! I'm glad I have an excuse to weigh that much in such a short amount of time! The doctor said that the head in still down towards my pelvis but I have not dropped yet. Everyone at work has something different to say. Some think I have, some think I haven't. I never knew there were so many experts on pregnancy! Overall, I still feel pretty good for the most part but I am starting to walk slower and getting up off the couch or out of the car can be a pain in the butt!
Last Friday, Ron and I went and got all the rest of the things we thought we needed for the baby. This included the bedding which we think is quite lovely - of course, you are entitled to your opinion! We also have been putting stuff together and making room for all of the gifts! It's actually been kind of fun! Thus far, we have rearranged the living room, dining room, bedroom and baby's room. I guess that doesn't leave any room out! Now, we are just trying to clean and get everything somewhat organized.
We also went on a tour of DMH last week. I know Ron didn't really want to since he's there everyday but he was a good sport and went. We got to tour the rooms, nursery and other spaces. I still can't decide if I want to do the private or semi-private rooms. Unfortunately, DMH hasn't caught up with St. Mary's and all of the rooms are not private yet and they have a special cost added to it. The semi-private rooms are so small and with all the family in town, I am not sure they can fit. Therefore, I am thinking we might go with a private room at least for our first child and if we have more, I wouldn't mind a semi-private one.
Well, I have my 36 week appointment next week and then I will start going every week! I think Ron and I are going to try our luck with putting in the car seat this weekend. There's only a month to go!

Spring is here!
Hello there! What a busy past few weeks! It seems like they have flown by! I had my 32 week appointment last week with Dr. Anderson and everything still seems to be going well. Only 1 more appointment every other week before I start going every week! The baby's heartbeat was in the 150's and I was measuring at 33 weeks. She said that the baby's head was near my pelvis so I hope he continues to stay there! Since yesterday, many of the women at work seem to think the baby has dropped but I don't think so. I think it's because I am finally starting to get bigger and they are just noticing it more.
I still feel great and I haven't had too much indigestion. There were two straight days in there when I ate some hot wings and was waiting for it to affect me but I had no problems! I can definitely feel the baby move more and more. It just seems like there's not much space. Sometimes Ron and I will see a part sticking out of my stomach and we sit there and try to figure out if it's a hand, foot, or butt! I don't think we're too good at that game which is a first!
In other news, we had our baby shower this past weekend and were showered with gifts from our friends and family! I was very excited that some of my friends and family were able to make it as they don't live in Decatur nor very close to it! We had a wonderful time watching Ron spill apple juice all over himself! With all the gifts, I think we are about ready for the baby to come now! We pretty much have everything we need. I think Ron and I are planning on going next week to get the bedding for the crib (perhaps my glider :) and any other last minute thing we can think of! I will be 37 weeks in 3 weeks, which is full-term, so I guess the baby could come at any moment!
We have also been attending some classes at St. Mary's. It's been pretty neat and I have learned some new information. Ron is usually bored and bring some notes to study. He was listening when Dr. Patel, a pediatrician, came in to speak about newborn care. He also liked when we were working on breathing techniques. It's funny because when we are at home and I feel a twinge of pain and tell Ron, he then says to practice the breathing techniques I learned. I usually start laughing because he is so into it and the pain will go away. We have two more Thursday night classes and then we will graduate and get our diplomas! I like the classes but I love the free samples even more!
As for Ron and I, we are trying to get as ready as possible for our lives to change. It's weird to think that we will be responsible for another life other than ours. Ron is so ready and I know he will be a wonderful dad. At times, I question myself but I know that as long as I have Ron there, I too will be wonderful. There are some days when I don't even want to move but Ron always has a smile on his face and will help me up. He loves to watch my preggo waddle.
I promise to post pics soon. Ron is still learning about his new camera so once he figures it all out, I will put up pics of my belly and maybe from the shower! Stay tuned...

All is good!
Well, well, well...what else is going on with the Baker family? Not too much! Ron went over the weekend to buy a video camera and a digital camera. So, we are all set for taking pictures. It has taken us months to actually go out and get one so I am glad that we finally did! Now, Ron just has to figure out how to use it. We also went baby toys/clothes looking over the weekend and decided that we are going to go up to St. Louis after the baby shower (March 24th) and pick up anything else we think we might need.
I had my first every other week appointment with Dr. Anderson. Everything still seemed to be going good. I was asking her about the different body parts and she said that his head was down near my pelvis. Ron and I have felt the baby move much more often than before. It seems like it usually happens when I wake up for work, anytime I have a student in my office or any other inopportune time when I can't enjoy it, around 5:00 when I get off of work, 7 or 8:00 depending on what I am doing and then around 11 or so (whenever I hit the bed!). Ron seems amazed every time he can feel the baby move. He will crouch down next to my belly and either start off with "Baby, baby, it's daddy" or he might throw in "Lil' Ron" instead. He's also been putting the flashlight up to my belly as well. Having him excited makes me more excited as well and is much easier to get through those seldom bad times like last night. I had a burning sensation it seemed like all night traveling from my stomach to esophagus. I felt like it was never going to end but I finally managed to get some sleep.
Aerobics is still going well. I only have a few more weeks before I stop and then I plan to go to the gym and use the treadmill. I know the workouts we've been doing pretty well so I can replicate it if needed. Ron and I start our childbirth classes this week so it will be interesting to see what we learn.
